Hybrid maintenance we do
- Oil changes with the low-viscosity oil hybrids usually call for, such as 0W-16 or 0W-20
- Brake inspections and brake service
- Tire swaps, rotations and storage
- Cabin and engine air filters
- 12-volt battery testing and replacement
- Coolant and other fluid checks, following the manufacturer's schedule
Things that are different on a hybrid
Hybrids slow down partly by using the electric motor, so brake pads often last longer, but brake parts that aren't used much can seize from road salt. We check that the brakes move freely, not just how much pad is left.
The small 12-volt battery still starts the car's systems. When it gets weak, a hybrid may not power on, even though the big hybrid battery is fine. A battery test tells you which it is.
The engine on a hybrid doesn't run all the time, but it still needs oil changes on the manufacturer's schedule.
Hybrid-system repairs
For warning lights on the hybrid system, we read the codes and tell you what we find. If a repair needs dealer-only equipment or involves the high-voltage battery, we'll tell you straight away rather than guess.
Hybrid service questions
Can a regular garage service a hybrid?
Yes, for routine maintenance like oil changes, brakes, tires, filters and the 12-volt battery. Follow your owner's manual and keep your invoices; we give you an itemized one for every service.
How much is an oil change on a hybrid?
Our full-synthetic oil change is $60 & up for up to 5L of oil and a new filter, using the grade your manufacturer specifies.
My hybrid won't turn on. Is the hybrid battery dead?
Often it's the 12-volt battery, not the hybrid battery. A battery test is $30 & up and tells you which one it is.
