Exhaust work we do
- Muffler replacement
- Exhaust pipe and resonator repair
- Broken or rusted hangers and clamps
- Exhaust leak diagnosis
- Heat shield rattles
Signs of an exhaust problem
- The car is suddenly louder, especially on start-up or when accelerating
- A rattle or buzz from under the car, often at idle
- Something hanging low or scraping
- An exhaust smell in or around the car
- A check engine light, which can come from a leak near the oxygen sensors
Don't ignore an exhaust smell
Exhaust contains carbon monoxide, which you can't see or smell on its own. If you smell exhaust inside the car, drive with the windows down and have it checked as soon as you can.
Exhaust and muffler questions
How much does a muffler or exhaust repair cost?
It depends on which part has failed and how much of the system is rusted, so we inspect and quote first. A loose hanger or heat shield is often a small fix; a rusted-through section costs more. You get the price before any work begins.
Why is my car suddenly so loud?
Usually a hole in the muffler or a pipe, or a joint that has separated. Toronto road salt is the main cause. Book a check, and if you smell exhaust inside the car, keep the windows open until it's fixed.
What's rattling under my car?
A loose heat shield or a broken exhaust hanger is the most common cause. It can also be a suspension part. See our guide on clunks and rattles.
Can an exhaust leak turn on the check engine light?
Yes. A leak near the oxygen sensors can confuse the engine computer. We read the code first. A check engine light scan is $30 & up.
